Restorative Dentistry, 1e Italian Ac: An Illustrated Resource for Clinical Practice and Research

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to characterize the surface morphology and the elastic properties of four dental restorative flowable composites currently on the market (Venus Diamond Flow, Vertise Flow, Filtex Supreme XT Flow, Surefil SDR Flow). Additionally, one adhesive system (Adhese One F) and one non-flowable composite (Venus Diamond) have also been characterized as the control materials.

With more than 2,080 vibrant, full-color clinical photographs, Restorative Dentistry presents the Italian Academy of Conservative Dentistry's authoritative coverage of endodontics, cosmetics, prosthodontics, traumatology, and general operative principles with unparalleled visual detail. This atlas-style resource guides you step-by-step through essential procedures and presents realistic case scenarios to help you deepen your understanding of restorative principles and successfully apply your knowledge to patient treatment.

During the 1980s, after the development of techniques for adhesive cementation, ultrathin laminates were relaunched. However, at the time, the practice did not spread as quickly as expected, due mainly to professionals' fears regarding the strength of the very thin porcelain veneers in resisting masticatory forces [5]. Due to increasing aesthetic demand and the possibility of joining laminated ceramic to the tooth structure (particularly enamel), a new concept was introduced: minimally invasive restorative dentistry, which causes little damage to dental structures [2].

In clinical practice, especially in prosthetic restorative procedures, there is often a need for prior corrections of the contours and the gingival anatomy due to the goals of achieving facial aesthetics and ensuring harmony between the gum tissue and the dental anatomy.

To achieve better clinical outcomes in the long term and improve the properties of restorative materials, various studies have been conducted. Improvements in the coefficient of thermal expansion and in the size and distribution of particles have led to abrasive ceramic restorations that are more resistant to fracture, giving an improved prognosis and making the ceramic dental restorative material superior to composite resin [29].

Talking to colleagues, their experience of restorative programmes at other universities has been a dry, theoretical experience with little end-point relevance to the patient. The ethos of the Peninsula course has been refreshing and innovative. It is primarily a patient centred course and I can take what I learn and apply it the next day in a clinical setting. I essentially wanted a restorative course that my patients would immediately benefit from.

The first year of the D.D.S. curriculum includes courses in the core basic sciences (gross anatomy, histology, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology and pathology), introductory dental sciences (cariology, dental anatomy, dental materials science, conservative operative dentistry, epidemiology, evidence-based dentistry, periodontology, oral diagnosis and radiology, growth and development, and occlusion) and oral biology. In addition to this course work, students participate in Introduction to Patient Management. Also included are seminars on interviewing skills, ethics, rotation through patient care services and the delivery of preventive care. These courses introduce the student to the relationship between basic science and clinical practice as well as the relationship between the health care provider and the patient. Basic social science concepts are integrated throughout the curriculum.

The School of Dentistry offers 11 accredited programs: DDS, dental hygiene, two primary care general residency programs, andadvanced education programs in endodontics, oral and maxillofacial pathology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, and prosthodontics, plus dual-degree programs in partnership with the UTHealth School of Public Health and McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and a joint certificate program with MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
